Als Forscher arbeitete er nach seinem Doktortitel zunächst für das New Horizons Research Institute, eine Tochtergesellschaft der [[Hathor Group|Hathor-Gruppe]]. Nach einem Alleingang auf [[Yar (Centauri II)]], der über 250 Tage dauerte, gab Lench seinen Posten auf, kündigte bei New Horizons und besuchte [[Fujin City]] auf [[Fujin City|Saisei (Centauri III)]]. Am 15. November 2541 entdeckte er einen [[Jump Point|Sprungpunkt]] in [[Centauri System|Centauri]], der zu einem Planetensystem führte, in dem es von Leben wimmelte.
