Garron System
There are few systems in the Empire that inspire the myriad of emotions that Garron does. Even after two hundred years, the effects of the events on Garron II have barely abated in the public consciousness. To many, the system continues to be a chilling warning about the horrors that unchecked Human greed can unleash on the universe. To others, it is the lightning rod that spurred Humanity to finally rise up and free itself from the shackles of oppression.
Discovered in 2784 by Imperial pathfinders, the Garron system was significant from the start. While performing their initial assessment of the system, scientists and researchers focused on the only planet situated within the narrow green band of the G-type dwarf star. They were thrilled to discover developing life on Garron II. Remarkably, with all the systems that Humanity had discovered to this point, explorers had never before stumbled across a non-space faring sapient species, only ruins of long-past civilizations and ‘animals’ — so the government had never been faced with the prospect of how to deal with a burgeoning intelligent civilization.
The Imperator, Linton Messer XI, paraded vids of the aliens all across the Empire and boasted about Humanity uplifting the species. “We will be gods,” was the cornerstone of his address to the public in 2785. A team of the Empire’s greatest scientific minds were assembled under the guidance of famed anthropologist and linguist, Dr. Michael Shiherlis, and assigned to an orbital platform above Garron II. Their mission was to not only study the species below, but devise a method of contacting them and subsequently uplift them.
Over the next five years, Shiherlis and the team worked tirelessly to observe the creatures below and decrypt their language, all while keeping their presence hidden from the unsuspecting culture. However, their Imperator grew bored with the prospect of uplifting Garron II, particularly when he was presented with the initial planetary assessment that detailed Garron II’s considerable natural resources. The prospect of assimilating the species was now overshadowed by the possibility of massive financial gain.
The Imperator immediately began courting terraforming companies and mining concerns to spec out potential bids for processing the planet. Planetary geo-engineers moved into the observation station to perform more thorough surveys of the planet. Shiherlis quickly realized what was happening and implored Messer to reconsider.
He got his answer when Ellis Netemi, Linton Messer’s cousin and chief adviser, broke the planetary quarantine to personally lead a tour down to the planet surface. There, in full view of the alien species, he showcased the landscape for company reps in the hopes of sparking a bidding war. Shiherlis, horrified at having to witness this innocent species effectively being invaded, decided to take a stand and let the public know what Messer was up to. Unfortunately, Shiherlis was betrayed by a close associate who was terrified that the Imperator’s wrath would extend to the entire team. Michael Shiherlis was deemed an “enemy of the Empire” and quickly remanded to Orville prison on Charon III without trial.
With Shiherlis out of the way and the rest of the scientific team terrified into submission, Netemi sold mining rights to the highest bidder and the terraforming machines moved into place to convert the atmosphere. Whether the Imperator had forgotten about his earlier boasts to the public about uplifting Garron II or considered the populace to be so completely subjugated that his reversal would go unnoticed is still being debated among historians. However, all of those vids that he showcased depicting the creatures of Garron II firmly implanted the primitive civilization in the public’s consciousness, so once the underground activist movement known as the Tide released footage of the devastation caused by terraforming an inhabited planet, the public remembered. What came next, no one could have anticipated.
In the aftermath of the revolution, Humanity was faced with a myriad of uncertainties. The newly installed Imperator Erin Toi was busy introducing legislation that would prevent future despots from seizing power while also ferreting out the remaining forces loyal to the Messers, but the public’s attention was firmly on the loss of Garron II.
The Senate enacted the Fair Chance Act and quickly placed the recently discovered Osiris system under its protection, but there was considerably more debate over what to do with Garron II. The Senate decided to build a team to restore Garron II to its original form. They consulted the initial planetary analysis and even managed to bring back some of the original members of Shiherlis’ team to assist. The government even attempted to bring Dr. Shiherlis back onto the project after freeing him and the thousands of other political prisoners from the prisons on Charon III, but the doctor refused. Years of abuse during his incarceration prevented him from returning to the project.
Over the years, advanced research companies like Rayari Inc. volunteered their cutting edge technology to help rebuild Garron II and its biosphere. Imperator Toi ultimately placed Garron II under the Fair Chance Act, guaranteeing that it would be protected from this point onward.
The ramifications of the actions taken in this system reverberated through the decades. It was this incident that Imperator Salehi would cite, almost a hundred years later, as the inspiration for the creation of the Synthworld project. To this day, Garron remains as a nexus for the scientific community. Though it has no settled planets, the system sees a healthy amount of traffic and trade from its connections to Idris and Banshee. Surprisingly, though, Garron generates most of its revenue from the jump point to Bacchus. The system sees millions of travelers every year who are eager to visit the Banu system and conversely, acts as one of the main conduits into the UEE for Banu.
Garron I
Formed very close to the system’s star, Garron I’s proximity has transformed its surface into a sea of lava. Garron II
This rocky planet was home to an amazingly diverse biosphere with an equally varied array of lifeforms until the Messers essentially eliminated the indigenous life by replacing the atmosphere. Since then, terraforming companies and scientists have worked to restore the planet to its former self and although they have not been able to recreate any of the creatures, they’ve made great strides in repopulating much of the botanical life, in large part thanks to the hundreds of detailed scans Shiherlis and his team recorded. Despite not having any inhabitants, this planet has been placed under the Fair Chance Act. OB Heller

The station has since served as an operations hub for scientific teams attempting to rebuild Garron II’s original atmosphere and as a museum on the history of terraforming and the Fair Chance Act. A large super-Earth that formed on the inner edge of the system’s frost line. After exhaustive studies, the planet was deemed devoid of life and cleared for mining to help fund efforts to restore Garron II. Garron IV
The furthest planet in the system, this large, rocky planet orbits on the outer rim of the system. The UEE constructed a monument on the surface entitled The Sentinel as a sign of their commitment to protect the developing species in this and all other systems.
TRAVEL WARNING
Those visiting Garron should be aware that the whole system has extra environmental protections in place to prevent additional contamination of Garron II. There are strict fines for littering and all ships are expected to properly dispose of waste at designated reclamation centers.

Garron-System

Der Senat beschloss, ein Team aufzubauen, um Garron II wieder in seine ursprüngliche Form zu bringen. Sie konsultierten die erste planetarische Analyse und schafften es sogar, einige der ursprünglichen Mitglieder des Shiherlis-Teams zur Unterstützung zurückzuholen. Die Regierung versuchte sogar, Dr. Shiherlis wieder in das Projekt einzubeziehen, nachdem sie ihn und die Tausenden anderer politischer Gefangener aus den Gefängnissen auf Charon III befreit hatte, aber der Arzt weigerte sich. Seitdem haben Terraforming-Firmen und Wissenschaftler daran gearbeitet, den Planeten wiederherzustellen, und obwohl sie keine der Kreaturen nachbauen konnten, haben sie große Fortschritte bei der Wiederbelegung eines Großteils des botanischen Lebens gemacht, zum großen Teil dank der Hunderte von Detailscans, die Shiherlis und sein Team aufgenommen haben. Obwohl er keine Einwohner hat, wurde dieser Planet unter das Fair Chance Gesetz gestellt.
OB Heller
Die ursprüngliche Beobachtungsstation, die für Dr. Shiherlis und sein Team gebaut wurde, um eine Methode zur Hebung der Bewohner von Garron II zu entwickeln. Die Station dient seitdem als Operationszentrale für wissenschaftliche Teams, die versuchen, die ursprüngliche Atmosphäre von Garron II wiederherzustellen, und als Museum zur Geschichte des Terraforming und des Fair Chance Act.
Garron III
Eine große Super-Erde, die sich an der Innenkante der Frostgrenze des Systems gebildet hat. Nach eingehenden Studien galt der Planet als lebenslos und wurde für den Bergbau freigegeben, um die Bemühungen zur Wiederherstellung von Garron II zu finanzieren.
Garron IV
Der weiteste Planet im System, dieser große, felsige Planet umkreist den äußeren Rand des Systems. Die UEE errichtete auf der Oberfläche ein Denkmal mit dem Titel The Sentinel als Zeichen ihres Engagements für den Schutz der sich entwickelnden Arten in diesem und allen anderen Systemen.
REISEWARNUNG
Die Besucher von Garron sollten sich darüber im Klaren sein, dass das gesamte System über zusätzliche Umweltschutzmaßnahmen verfügt, um eine zusätzliche Kontamination von Garron II zu verhindern. Garron-System
Es gibt nur wenige Systeme im Imperium, die die unzähligen Emotionen inspirieren, die Garron macht. Auch nach zweihundert Jahren haben die Auswirkungen der Ereignisse auf Garron II im öffentlichen Bewusstsein kaum nachgelassen. Für viele ist das System weiterhin eine abschreckende Warnung vor den Schrecken, die die ungezügelte menschliche Gier auf das Universum auslösen kann. Für andere ist es der Blitzableiter, der die Menschheit dazu veranlasste, sich endlich zu erheben und sich von den Fesseln der Unterdrückung zu befreien.
Das Garron-System wurde 2784 von kaiserlichen Pfadfindern entdeckt und war von Anfang an von Bedeutung. Bei ihrer ersten Bewertung des Systems konzentrierten sich Wissenschaftler und Forscher auf den einzigen Planeten, der sich innerhalb des schmalen grünen Bandes des G-Typ-Zwergsterns befand. Sie waren begeistert, das sich entwickelnde Leben auf Garron II zu entdecken. Bemerkenswert ist, dass die Entdecker bei all den Systemen, die die Menschheit bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt entdeckt hatte, noch nie zuvor über eine nicht raumschiffende Sapient-Art gestolpert waren, nur über Ruinen von längst vergangenen Zivilisationen und "Tieren" - so dass die Regierung nie mit der Aussicht konfrontiert worden war, mit einer aufkeimenden intelligenten Zivilisation umzugehen.
Der Imperator, Linton Messer XI, führte Vids der Außerirdischen durch das ganze Imperium und prahlte damit, dass die Menschheit die Spezies aufwertet. "Wir werden Götter sein", war der Eckpfeiler seiner Ansprache an die Öffentlichkeit im Jahr 2785. Ein Team der größten wissenschaftlichen Köpfe des Imperiums wurde unter der Leitung des berühmten Anthropologen und Linguisten Dr. Michael Shiherlis zusammengestellt und einer Orbitalplattform über Garron II zugewiesen. Ihre Mission war es, nicht nur die folgenden Arten zu untersuchen, sondern auch eine Methode zu entwickeln, um sie zu kontaktieren und sie anschließend zu heben.
In den nächsten fünf Jahren arbeiteten Shiherlis und das Team unermüdlich daran, die untenstehenden Kreaturen zu beobachten und ihre Sprache zu entschlüsseln, während sie ihre Präsenz vor der ahnungslosen Kultur verborgen hielten. Ihr Imperator wurde jedoch gelangweilt von der Aussicht, Garron II zu erheben, insbesondere als ihm die erste planetarische Einschätzung vorgelegt wurde, dass Garron II über die beträchtlichen natürlichen Ressourcen verfügt. Die Aussicht auf eine Assimilation der Art wurde nun von der Möglichkeit massiver finanzieller Gewinne überschattet.
Der Imperator begann sofort, sich um Terraformingunternehmen und Bergbauunternehmen zu bewerben, um mögliche Angebote für die Verarbeitung des Planeten zu ermitteln. Planeten-Geoingenieure zogen in die Beobachtungsstation ein, um gründlichere Untersuchungen des Planeten durchzuführen. Shiherlis erkannte schnell, was passierte und flehte Messer an, es zu überdenken.
Er bekam seine Antwort, als Ellis Netemi, Linton Messers Cousin und Chefberater, die planetarische Quarantäne brach, um persönlich eine Tour zur Planetenoberfläche zu führen. Dort präsentierte er vor den Augen der außerirdischen Arten die Landschaft für die Vertreter der Unternehmen, in der Hoffnung, einen Ausschreibungskrieg auszulösen. Shiherlis, entsetzt darüber, dass er miterleben musste, wie diese unschuldige Spezies tatsächlich eingedrungen wurde, beschloss, Stellung zu beziehen und die Öffentlichkeit darüber zu informieren, was Messer vorhatte. Leider wurde Shiherlis von einem engen Mitarbeiter verraten, der Angst hatte, dass sich der Zorn des Imperators auf das gesamte Team ausweiten würde. Michael Shiherlis galt als "Feind des Reiches" und wurde schnell und ohne Gerichtsverfahren an Charon III. ins Gefängnis von Orville zurückgeschickt.
Nachdem Shiherlis aus dem Weg geräumt war und der Rest des wissenschaftlichen Teams Angst vor der Einreichung hatte, verkaufte Netemi die Abbaurechte an den Meistbietenden und die Terraforming-Maschinen wurden aufgestellt, um die Atmosphäre zu verwandeln. Ob der Imperator seine früheren Prahlereien gegenüber der Öffentlichkeit über die Erhebung von Garron II vergessen hatte oder die Bevölkerung für so völlig unterworfen hielt, dass seine Umkehrung unbemerkt blieb, wird immer noch unter Historikern diskutiert. Doch all die Videos, die er mit der Darstellung der Kreaturen von Garron II. präsentierte, implantierten die primitive Zivilisation fest in das Bewusstsein der Öffentlichkeit, so dass sich die Öffentlichkeit daran erinnerte, als die unterirdische Aktivistenbewegung, die als Tide bekannt ist, Aufnahmen der Verwüstung durch die Terraforming eines bewohnten Planeten veröffentlichte. Was als nächstes kam, konnte niemand ahnen.
Nach der Revolution sah sich die Menschheit mit einer Vielzahl von Unsicherheiten konfrontiert. Der neu installierte Imperator Erin Toi war damit beschäftigt, eine Gesetzgebung einzuführen, die verhindern würde, dass zukünftige Despoten die Macht übernehmen, während sie gleichzeitig die verbleibenden Kräfte, die den Messern treu ergeben waren, aufspüren würde, aber die Aufmerksamkeit der Öffentlichkeit war fest auf den Verlust von Garron II gerichtet.
Der Senat erließ den Fair Chance Act und stellte das kürzlich entdeckte Osiris-System schnell unter seinen Schutz, aber es gab deutlich mehr Diskussionen darüber, was mit Garron II geschehen sollte. Der Senat beschloss, ein Team aufzubauen, um Garron II wieder in seine ursprüngliche Form zu bringen. Sie konsultierten die erste planetarische Analyse und schafften es sogar, einige der ursprünglichen Mitglieder des Shiherlis-Teams zur Unterstützung zurückzuholen. Die Regierung versuchte sogar, Dr. Shiherlis wieder in das Projekt einzubeziehen, nachdem sie ihn und die Tausenden anderer politischer Gefangener aus den Gefängnissen auf Charon III befreit hatte, aber der Arzt weigerte sich. Jahrelanger Missbrauch während seiner Inhaftierung verhinderte, dass er in das Projekt zurückkehrte.
Im Laufe der Jahre haben fortgeschrittene Forschungsunternehmen wie Rayari Inc. ihre Spitzentechnologie freiwillig zur Verfügung gestellt, um den Wiederaufbau von Garron II und seiner Biosphäre zu unterstützen. Importeur Toi hat Garron II schließlich dem Fair Chance Act unterstellt und garantiert, dass es von diesem Zeitpunkt an geschützt ist.
Die Auswirkungen der in diesem System ergriffenen Maßnahmen haben im Laufe der Jahrzehnte nachgespielt. Es war dieser Vorfall, den Imperator Salehi fast hundert Jahre später als Inspiration für die Entstehung des Synthworld-Projekts nannte. Bis heute ist Garron ein Knotenpunkt für die wissenschaftliche Gemeinschaft. Obwohl es keine besiedelten Planeten hat, sieht das System eine gesunde Menge an Verkehr und Handel von seinen Verbindungen nach Idris und Banshee. Überraschenderweise generiert Garron jedoch den größten Teil seiner Einnahmen aus dem Sprungpunkt zu Bacchus. Das System sieht jedes Jahr Millionen von Reisenden, die begierig darauf sind, das Banu-System zu besuchen und umgekehrt als eine der wichtigsten Leitungen in die UEE für Banu fungieren.
Garron I
Die Nähe von Garron I, die sich sehr nah am Stern des Systems befindet, hat seine Oberfläche in ein Lavameer verwandelt.
Garron II
Dieser felsige Planet beherbergte eine erstaunlich vielfältige Biosphäre mit einer ebenso vielfältigen Palette von Lebensformen, bis die Messers das einheimische Leben durch den Ersatz der Atmosphäre weitgehend eliminierten. Seitdem haben Terraforming-Firmen und Wissenschaftler daran gearbeitet, den Planeten wiederherzustellen, und obwohl sie keine der Kreaturen nachbauen konnten, haben sie große Fortschritte bei der Wiederbelegung eines Großteils des botanischen Lebens gemacht, zum großen Teil dank der Hunderte von Detailscans, die Shiherlis und sein Team aufgenommen haben. Obwohl er keine Einwohner hat, wurde dieser Planet unter das Fair Chance Gesetz gestellt.
OB Heller
Die ursprüngliche Beobachtungsstation, die für Dr. Shiherlis und sein Team gebaut wurde, um eine Methode zur Hebung der Bewohner von Garron II zu entwickeln. Die Station dient seitdem als Operationszentrale für wissenschaftliche Teams, die versuchen, die ursprüngliche Atmosphäre von Garron II wiederherzustellen, und als Museum zur Geschichte des Terraforming und des Fair Chance Act.
Garron III
Eine große Super-Erde, die sich an der Innenkante der Frostgrenze des Systems gebildet hat. Nach eingehenden Studien galt der Planet als lebenslos und wurde für den Bergbau freigegeben, um die Bemühungen zur Wiederherstellung von Garron II zu finanzieren.
Garron IV
Der weiteste Planet im System, dieser große, felsige Planet umkreist den äußeren Rand des Systems. Die UEE errichtete auf der Oberfläche ein Denkmal mit dem Titel The Sentinel als Zeichen ihres Engagements für den Schutz der sich entwickelnden Arten in diesem und allen anderen Systemen.
REISEWARNUNG
Die Besucher von Garron sollten sich darüber im Klaren sein, dass das gesamte System über zusätzliche Umweltschutzmaßnahmen verfügt, um eine zusätzliche Kontamination von Garron II zu verhindern. Es gibt strenge Geldbußen für Littering und von allen Schiffen wird erwartet, dass sie Abfälle in ausgewiesenen Rückgewinnungszentren ordnungsgemäß entsorgen.

Garron System
There are few systems in the Empire that inspire the myriad of emotions that Garron does. Even after two hundred years, the effects of the events on Garron II have barely abated in the public consciousness. To many, the system continues to be a chilling warning about the horrors that unchecked Human greed can unleash on the universe. To others, it is the lightning rod that spurred Humanity to finally rise up and free itself from the shackles of oppression.
Discovered in 2784 by Imperial pathfinders, the Garron system was significant from the start. While performing their initial assessment of the system, scientists and researchers focused on the only planet situated within the narrow green band of the G-type dwarf star. They were thrilled to discover developing life on Garron II. Remarkably, with all the systems that Humanity had discovered to this point, explorers had never before stumbled across a non-space faring sapient species, only ruins of long-past civilizations and ‘animals’ — so the government had never been faced with the prospect of how to deal with a burgeoning intelligent civilization.
The Imperator, Linton Messer XI, paraded vids of the aliens all across the Empire and boasted about Humanity uplifting the species. “We will be gods,” was the cornerstone of his address to the public in 2785. A team of the Empire’s greatest scientific minds were assembled under the guidance of famed anthropologist and linguist, Dr. Michael Shiherlis, and assigned to an orbital platform above Garron II. Their mission was to not only study the species below, but devise a method of contacting them and subsequently uplift them.
Over the next five years, Shiherlis and the team worked tirelessly to observe the creatures below and decrypt their language, all while keeping their presence hidden from the unsuspecting culture. However, their Imperator grew bored with the prospect of uplifting Garron II, particularly when he was presented with the initial planetary assessment that detailed Garron II’s considerable natural resources. The prospect of assimilating the species was now overshadowed by the possibility of massive financial gain.
The Imperator immediately began courting terraforming companies and mining concerns to spec out potential bids for processing the planet. Planetary geo-engineers moved into the observation station to perform more thorough surveys of the planet. Shiherlis quickly realized what was happening and implored Messer to reconsider.
He got his answer when Ellis Netemi, Linton Messer’s cousin and chief adviser, broke the planetary quarantine to personally lead a tour down to the planet surface. There, in full view of the alien species, he showcased the landscape for company reps in the hopes of sparking a bidding war. Shiherlis, horrified at having to witness this innocent species effectively being invaded, decided to take a stand and let the public know what Messer was up to. Unfortunately, Shiherlis was betrayed by a close associate who was terrified that the Imperator’s wrath would extend to the entire team. Michael Shiherlis was deemed an “enemy of the Empire” and quickly remanded to Orville prison on Charon III without trial.
With Shiherlis out of the way and the rest of the scientific team terrified into submission, Netemi sold mining rights to the highest bidder and the terraforming machines moved into place to convert the atmosphere. Whether the Imperator had forgotten about his earlier boasts to the public about uplifting Garron II or considered the populace to be so completely subjugated that his reversal would go unnoticed is still being debated among historians. However, all of those vids that he showcased depicting the creatures of Garron II firmly implanted the primitive civilization in the public’s consciousness, so once the underground activist movement known as the Tide released footage of the devastation caused by terraforming an inhabited planet, the public remembered. What came next, no one could have anticipated.
In the aftermath of the revolution, Humanity was faced with a myriad of uncertainties. The newly installed Imperator Erin Toi was busy introducing legislation that would prevent future despots from seizing power while also ferreting out the remaining forces loyal to the Messers, but the public’s attention was firmly on the loss of Garron II.
The Senate enacted the Fair Chance Act and quickly placed the recently discovered Osiris system under its protection, but there was considerably more debate over what to do with Garron II. The Senate decided to build a team to restore Garron II to its original form. They consulted the initial planetary analysis and even managed to bring back some of the original members of Shiherlis’ team to assist. The government even attempted to bring Dr. Shiherlis back onto the project after freeing him and the thousands of other political prisoners from the prisons on Charon III, but the doctor refused. Years of abuse during his incarceration prevented him from returning to the project.
Over the years, advanced research companies like Rayari Inc. volunteered their cutting edge technology to help rebuild Garron II and its biosphere. Imperator Toi ultimately placed Garron II under the Fair Chance Act, guaranteeing that it would be protected from this point onward.
The ramifications of the actions taken in this system reverberated through the decades. It was this incident that Imperator Salehi would cite, almost a hundred years later, as the inspiration for the creation of the Synthworld project. To this day, Garron remains as a nexus for the scientific community. Though it has no settled planets, the system sees a healthy amount of traffic and trade from its connections to Idris and Banshee. Surprisingly, though, Garron generates most of its revenue from the jump point to Bacchus. The system sees millions of travelers every year who are eager to visit the Banu system and conversely, acts as one of the main conduits into the UEE for Banu.
Garron I
Formed very close to the system’s star, Garron I’s proximity has transformed its surface into a sea of lava. Garron II
This rocky planet was home to an amazingly diverse biosphere with an equally varied array of lifeforms until the Messers essentially eliminated the indigenous life by replacing the atmosphere. Since then, terraforming companies and scientists have worked to restore the planet to its former self and although they have not been able to recreate any of the creatures, they’ve made great strides in repopulating much of the botanical life, in large part thanks to the hundreds of detailed scans Shiherlis and his team recorded. Despite not having any inhabitants, this planet has been placed under the Fair Chance Act. OB Heller
The original observation station constructed for Dr. Shiherlis and his team to design a method to uplift the denizens of Garron II. The station has since served as an operations hub for scientific teams attempting to rebuild Garron II’s original atmosphere and as a museum on the history of terraforming and the Fair Chance Act. Garron III
A large super-Earth that formed on the inner edge of the system’s frost line. After exhaustive studies, the planet was deemed devoid of life and cleared for mining to help fund efforts to restore Garron II. Garron IV
The furthest planet in the system, this large, rocky planet orbits on the outer rim of the system. The UEE constructed a monument on the surface entitled The Sentinel as a sign of their commitment to protect the developing species in this and all other systems.
TRAVEL WARNING
Those visiting Garron should be aware that the whole system has extra environmental protections in place to prevent additional contamination of Garron II. There are strict fines for littering and all ships are expected to properly dispose of waste at designated reclamation centers.
