The Branaugh system is an [unclaimed](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VgExMejDPx-unclaimed-system) planetary system that consists of a K-type main sequence star, two terrestrial planets, one gas giant, and an asteroid belt. Although it was officially discovered by mining surveyor [Desmond Fell](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RX3dlQ5KON-desmond-fell) in SEY 2877, he was not the first [Human](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/0Nwpnr6wa2-humans) to visit the system. During Fell's initial surveys, he located the crashed ship and the body of explorer [Theresa Branaugh](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VpMeGzBPyz-theresa-branaugh), who had gone missing four years prior. The UEE ultimately chose not to claim the system after the [Senate](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VaZn8OqaNZ-senate) Subcommittee on Expansion delivered an analysis that showed that the potential resources gleaned from the system would barely offset the cost of development. Since then, an enclave of [Tevarin](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/V8gJv3nB3X-tevarin) expatriates has developed on [Branaugh II](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RL6524Kx6L-branaugh-ii), despite its unfriendly atmosphere.
