Jumping Limes

Grows on a cactus in the deserts of Yar (Centauri II). A local variant that developed naturally after terraformation was complete, the spiny fruit start off purple and turn green when they are ripe.

They acquired their name because of the ease in which they fall off the cactus and attach themselves to clothing and skin, as if they "jumped" there.

The leathery, barbed skin must be peeled back to reveal the juicy flesh of the interior. The taste is sweet, extremely tart and astringent.

Locals warn that if you become lost in the dessert you should be careful using jumping limes for hydration as they can make you feel even more thirsty.

Wächst auf einem Kaktus in den Wüsten von Yar (Centauri 2). Die stacheligen Früchte, die sich nach der Terraformierung auf natürliche Weise entwickelt haben, sind zunächst violett und färben sich grün, wenn sie reif sind. Ihren Namen haben sie erhalten, weil sie so leicht vom Kaktus abfallen und sich an Kleidung und Haut festsetzen, als wären sie dorthin "gesprungen".

Die ledrige, mit Widerhaken versehene Haut muss abgeschält werden, um das saftige Fruchtfleisch im Inneren freizulegen. Der Geschmack ist süß, extrem säuerlich und adstringierend.

Die Einheimischen warnen, dass man vorsichtig sein sollte, wenn man sich in der Wüste verirrt hat, da die springenden Limetten den Durst noch verstärken können.

当地人警告说，如果你在沙漠中迷路了，慎用跳跳橙来补充水分，因为它们会让你感觉更渴。
