"Je größer der Gedanke, desto größer die Handlung."

So heißt es in einem der wichtigsten Grundsätze der Li'tova, einem unter den Xi'an beliebten moralischen und spirituellen Glaubenssystem, das die Sichtweise seiner Anhänger auf das Universum leitet. Nirgendwo ist es so offensichtlich wie beim Kayfa-System, das dank der Existenz eines astronomisch besonderen Planeten, Tovaroh, ganz der Li'tova gewidmet ist.

Kayfa's Rolle als Mittelpunkt der Xi'an Spiritualität war den Menschen während des Kalten Krieges unbekannt. Nachdem die Menschheit 2617 von der Existenz des Systems erfuhr, kursierten Gerüchte, dass Kayfa der Hauptstützpunkt für die Invasion oder sogar der Standort der Heimatwelt Xi'an sei. Die wahre Natur des Systems war so bewacht, dass die ganze Menschheit zweihundert Jahre lang von Kayfa wusste, dass jedes im System gefundene UEE-Schiff sofort angegriffen werden würde - eine Botschaft, die der UEE über die beiden Marinepiloten, die das System gefunden haben, deutlich gemacht wurde.

2617 entdeckten die UEEN-Leutnants Ahmad Harar und Carl Dyson beim Patrouillieren des Horus-Systems eine Gravitationsanomalie. Harar und Dyson hätten sich an ihren Kommandanten wenden und die Koordinaten melden sollen, damit ein militärischer Pfadfinder eingesetzt werden konnte, aber, so erklärten sie später, hätte dies ihre Chance auf Geschichte vereitelt. Ohne ein Wort zu sagen, betraten sie den Sprungpunkt und waren die ersten Menschen, die das Kayfa-System besuchten. Die Entscheidung, ihren Ausflug geheim zu halten, war töricht, aber im Nachhinein gesehen, hätte sie vielleicht einen Krieg zwischen verschiedenen Arten verhindert.

Unbekannt für Harar und Dyson, löste ihre Ankunft in Kayfa Langstreckensensoren aus, die ein nahegelegenes Xi'an Geschwader mobilisierten. Unterdessen verzögerte sich Harar und Dysons Rückreise, weil Dysons Schiff durch das Navigieren des unbekannten Sprungs Schaden erlitt. Während Dyson eine Diagnose durchführte, um zu sehen, ob sein Schiff noch sprungfähig war, neutralisierte eine EMP-Blast beide Raumschiffe. Die Xi'an-Staffel schwärmte und nahm Harar und Dyson gefangen. Seit Jahren werden die beiden in offiziellen UEE-Dokumenten in diesem Zeitraum als "Medical Leave" geführt. Die volle Wahrheit wurde jedoch nach dem Historical Truth Act von 2941 enthüllt.

Deklassierte UEE-Militärakten liste Harar und Dyson als vermisst in Aktion für drei Tage. Die beiden behaupten, auf einem großen Militärschiff von Xi'An festgehalten worden zu sein, wo sie verhört wurden, während ihre Schiffe untersucht und entwaffnet wurden. Nach drei ängstlichen Tagen begannen die Xi'An, der Geschichte der Piloten zu glauben, dass der Rest des UEE-Militärs nichts von dem Sprung wusste. Die beiden wurden zu ihren Schiffen zurückgebracht, zum Sprungplatz begleitet und erhielten die Nachricht, dass alle weiteren UEE-Schiffe sofort angegriffen würden.

Erst nach dem Fall der Messers und der Normalisierung der Beziehungen zwischen den beiden Arten offenbarten die Xi'An die Geheimnisse von Kayfa. Der erste offizielle Besuch von Imperator Toi im Xi'An Imperium fand im Kayfa-System statt. Kaiser Kr.ē führte sie auf eine persönliche Tour durch Tovaroh und schnitt einen Ast einer hundertjährigen Blütenpflanze ab, die sie mit nach Hause nehmen konnte.

Kaiser Kr.ē erläuterte auch eine Kernlehre von Li'tova; diese eine kleine Handlung kann das gesamte Universum betreffen. Harar und Dyson wurde Nachsicht entgegengebracht, weil die Xi'An wussten, dass die UEE den Sprung schließlich wieder entdecken würde. Die Xi'an wollten eine ähnliche Situation und eine weitere Chance auf Aggression vermeiden, als die UEE zum zweiten Mal durch den Sprung kam. So war es mit großem Nachdenken, dass die Xi'an entschieden, dass die richtige Handlung Mitgefühl war, weil sie den klarsten Weg zum Frieden bot.

In einem überraschenden Schritt während des Gipfels änderte Kaiser Kr.ē das Xi'an-Gesetz, um es allen menschlichen Besuchern zu ermöglichen, das Kayfa-System offen zu halten, in der Hoffnung, dass es das Interesse an der Xi'An-Kultur, den Bräuchen und schließlich dem dauerhaften Frieden zwischen den beiden Arten fördern würde.

Kayfa I
Kayfa's erste Welt ist ein terrestrischer Planet mit einer Atmosphäre, die hauptsächlich aus Kohlenstoffverbindungen besteht. Aus dem Orbit ist die Atmosphäre ein rußiger Wirbel von schwarzen, braunen und roten Farbtönen. Einige UEE-Wissenschaftler vermuten, dass die Prävalenz von Kohlenstoff auf dem gesamten Planeten und der entsprechende atmosphärische Druck dem Planeten ein Diamantsubstrat gegeben haben könnten. Solche Theorien bleiben unbewiesen, da die Xi'an-Regierung den Abbau im System strikt verbietet.

Kayfa II (Tovaroh)
Kayfa II ist das religiöse Herz des Xi'An-Reiches, dank seiner ungewöhnlichen astronomischen Eigenschaften. Ein Tag auf dem Planeten dauert 100 Xi'an Jahre, was ungefähr 128 Standard Erdjahren entspricht.

Es ist im Xi'an-Reich üblich, dass Planeten einen Zweck zugewiesen und nur für diesen Zweck entwickelt werden. Die spirituellen Assoziationen von Kayfa II bedeuten, dass es sich um einen Ort des Friedens, der Ruhe und der Meditation handelt. Kultivierte Gärten und Felder bedecken einen Großteil der Oberfläche mit heiligen Tempeln, die so gebaut sind, dass immer einer am Horizont sein würde, egal wohin man schaut. Die Tempel bieten das absolute Minimum an Ressourcen und Annehmlichkeiten für Xi'An-Mönche, die die ultimative Erleuchtung in Li'tova verfolgen: einen ganzen Tag lang über Kayfa II meditieren. Um die Ruhe des Planeten zu bewahren, hat Kayfa II nur eine Stadt, Su'Shora. Die Stadt hat eine kleine Anzahl von ständigen Bewohnern, hauptsächlich Regierungs- oder religiöse Beamte und deren Hilfspersonal, die sich mit dem Besuch von Xi'An-Touristen und religiösen Pilgern befassen. Menschen sind willkommen, aber es wird erwartet, dass sie sich an die Gebräuche des Planeten halten. Die Xi'an, die ursprünglich aus Koli (Eealus III.) stammen, entdeckten, dass diese Zierpflanzen in den Gärten von Tovaroh gedeihen. Das Gesetz gewährt jedem Xi'an eine kostenlose Anlage bei seinem ersten Besuch auf dem Planeten. Menschen können sie kaufen, sollten aber keinen Rabatt erwarten. Kayfa III
Die Xi'an betrachteten diesen Gaszwerg einst als potenziellen Kandidaten für eine plattformbasierte Kolonisierung. Der Plan wurde zerschlagen, nachdem Kaiser Kr.ē Bedenken darüber äußerte, wie sich ein erhöhter Verkehr im System auf Kayfa II auswirken könnte.

Kayfa IV
Kayfa IV ist der zweite Gaszwerg des Systems. Da sein felsiger Kern und seine diffuse Atmosphäre der von Kayfa III ähnlich sind, fragen sich einige Humanwissenschaftler, warum die beiden Planeten so weit voneinander entfernt sind. Theorien sind reichlich vorhanden, bleiben aber unbewiesen, einschließlich einer, die darauf hindeutet, dass ein Schurkenplanet, der durch das System schneidet, Kayfa IV aus seiner ursprünglichen Umlaufbahn zog. Ein kürzlich von einer Versammlung von Menschen und Xi'an-Wissenschaftlern gestellter Antrag, den Planeten genauer zu untersuchen, wurde von der Regierung Xi'an abgelehnt.

Known within the UEE as the Kayfa system, this article has been updated to acknowledge the tradition Xi’an name for the system and its planets.
“The greater the thought, the greater the action.”

So states one of the main tenets of the Li’tova, a moral and spiritual belief system popular among the Xi’an which guides its adherents’ view of the universe. In no place is that more apparent than the Kayfa System (Hui sen Kai’pua), which is wholly dedicated to the Li’tova thanks to the existence of one astronomically special planet, R.aip’uāng (Kai’pua II).

Kayfa’s role as the focus of Xi’an spirituality was unknown by Humans during the cold war. After Humanity learned of the system’s existence in 2617, rumors swirled that Kayfa was the main staging ground for invasion or even the location of the Xi’an homeworld. The true nature of the system was so guarded that for two hundred years, all Humanity knew about Kayfa was that any UEE ship found in the system would be immediately attacked — a message made abundantly clear to the UEE by way of the two Navy pilots who found the system.

In 2617, UEEN Lieutenants Ahmad Harar and Carl Dyson discovered a gravitational anomaly while patrolling the Horus System. Harar and Dyson should have contacted their commander and reported the coordinates so a military pathfinder could be deployed, but, they later explained, doing so would have thwarted their chance at history. Without a word to anyone, they entered the jump point and became the first Humans to visit the Kayfa System. The decision to keep their excursion a secret was foolish but, in retrospect, might have averted an all-out interspecies war.

Unbeknownst to Harar and Dyson, their arrival in Kayfa triggered long range sensors that mobilized a nearby Xi’an squadron. Meanwhile, Harar and Dyson’s return trip was delayed because Dyson’s ship sustained damage from navigating the uncharted jump. While Dyson was running a diagnostic check to see if his ship was still jump-capable, an EMP blast neutralized both spacecraft. The Xi’an squadron swarmed and captured Harar and Dyson. For years, official UEE documents listed the two as on “medical leave” during this period. The full truth, however, was exposed after the Historical Truth Act of 2941.

Declassified UEE military records list Harar and Dyson as missing in action for three days. The two claim to have been held on a large Xi’An military vessel where they were interrogated while their ships were studied and stripped of weapons. After three anxious days, the Xi’An began to believe the pilots’ story that the rest of the UEE military didn’t know about the jump. The two were returned to their ships, escorted to the jump point, and given the message that any further UEE vessels would be attacked on sight.

It was only after the fall of the Messers and the normalizing of relations between the two species, that the Xi’An revealed the secrets of Kayfa. Imperator Toi’s first official visit to the Xi’An Empire occurred in the Kayfa System. Emperor Kr.ē led her on a personal tour of R.aip’uāng and clipped a branch of a Centennial Bloom plant for her to take home.

Emperor Kr.ē also elucidated a core doctrine of Li’tova; that one small action can affect the entire universe. Harar and Dyson were shown leniency because the Xi’An knew the UEE would eventually rediscover the jump. The Xi’an wanted to avoid a similar situation, and another chance at aggression, when the UEE came through the jump for the second time. So it was with great thought that the Xi’an determined the right action was compassion because it provided the clearest path to peace.

In a surprise move during the summit, Emperor Kr.ē amended Xi’an law to permit the Kayfa System to remain open to all Human visitors in the hopes that it would promote interest in Xi’An culture, customs and, ultimately, long-lasting peace between the two species.

Kayfa I (Ui’r.a’ang)
Kayfa’s first world is a terrestrial planet with an atmosphere composed mainly of carbon compounds. From orbit, the atmosphere is a sooty swirl of black, brown and red hues. Some UEE scientists theorize that the prevalence of carbon throughout the planet and the corresponding atmospheric pressure could have given the planet a diamond substratum. Such theories remain unproven as the Xi’an government strictly forbids mining in the system.

Kayfa II (R.aip’uāng)
R.aip’uāng is the religious heart of the Xi’An Empire, thanks to its unusual astronomical properties. One day on the planet lasts 100 Xi’an years, which roughly equates to 128 Standard Earth Years.

It is the custom in the Xi’an Empire for planets to be assigned a purpose and developed with only that purpose in mind. Kayfa II’s spiritual associations mean it was terra formed to be a place of peace, tranquility and meditation. Cultivated gardens and fields cover much of the surface with sacred temples built so that there would always be one on the horizon no matter where you look. The temples provide the bare minimum in resources and amenities for Xi’An monks pursuing the ultimate enlightenment in Li’tova: spending a full day meditating on Kayfa II. To preserve the planet’s tranquility, Kayfa II has only one city, Su’Shora. The city has a small number of permanent residents, mainly government or religious officials and their support staff, who deal with visiting Xi’An tourists and religious pilgrims. Humans are welcomed but expected to adhere to the planet’s customs. Unless given special dispensation, Human visitors are also required to stay within the limits of the city.

Kayfa II’s religious focus means there is no manufacturing or mining, and only essential economic activity. All other necessary products are shipped into the system by the Xi’An government. Some black market activity exists, but perpetrators caught are severely punished. The planet’s solitary, legal export is the Centennial Bloom plant, which is famous for blossoming beautiful bell flowers once every hundred Xi’an years. Originally native to Koli (Eealus III), the Xi’an discovered that these temperamental plants thrive in R.aip’uāng’s gardens. Law grants each Xi’an one complimentary plant on their first visit to the planet. Humans can purchase them, but should not expect a discount. As a way to dissuade Centennial Bloom bulk haulers from clogging the system, the Xi’an tie the plant’s price to the going rate in the UEE. So buying a Centennial Bloom on R.aip’uāng simply guarantees that the plant is authentic and not one of the genetically modified knockoffs commonly found around the UEE.

Kayfa III (Kyu’kyu)
The Xi’an once considered this gas dwarf as a potential candidate for platform-based colonization. The plan was squashed after Emperor Kr.ē expressed concern over how increased traffic in the system might affect Kayfa II.

Kayfa IV (K.yuk’o)
Kayfa IV is the system’s second gas dwarf. Since its rocky core and diffuse atmosphere are similar to Kayfa III, some Human scientists wonder why the two planets are so far apart. Theories abound but remain unproven, including one that suggests a rogue planet slicing through the system pulled Kayfa IV out of its original orbit. A recent request by an assembly of Human and Xi’an scientists to study the planet in greater detail was rejected by the Xi’an government.

TRAVEL WARNING
The Xi’an consider R.aip’uāng sacred — a designation extended to the entire system, so be respectful. No violent activity of any sort will be tolerated; it will be immediately suppressed.
