LOS ANGELES, June 11, 2016 — Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), the creators of the crowd funded space sim epic, Star Citizen, announced today that the game’s Alpha 2.4 version is now available for backers to play. It’s a significant update for fans of the game as it provides players with Star Citizen’s first iteration of persistence in the universe.
Persistent databases are what allow CIG to store information on items, ships, and actions that a player has taken, so that they can return exactly to where they left off session-to-session. This is a huge step forward into the “Persistent” part of making the “Persistent Universe” the vast universe planned for Star Citizen. During this first iteration, the following items will now “Persist” on the database and be saved from session to session.
• Alpha United Earth Credits (UEC) – Star Citizen’s in-game currency
• Item Purchases
• Hangar Configurations
• Ship Loadouts
• Character Loadouts
• Reputation (Criminal and Defender)
“Adding persistence is a huge milestone and a crucial addition to the game that will affect nearly every aspect of Star Citizen, and this is only the beginning,” said Ben Lesnick, CIG director of community engagement. “A ton of backend work was completed in order to make this possible and we are looking forward to the updates to come as we continue to expand and flesh out this core foundation of the game.”
This is a major update to Star Citizen and is the largest and most impactful since the company released Alpha 2.0 in December of 2015.
Other features in the update are upgrades to shopping areas including the opening of the Casaba Shopping Outlet on ArcCorp where pilots can now purchase the latest fashions from around the frontier at affordable prices. Alpha 2.4 also introduces major changes to the controls, updates to the ship roster (including making the massive Starfarer flyable in-game), bug fixes, balance updates and more!
Star Citizen is 100% crowd funded and was officially announced on October 10, 2012. The money raised pays for the development of the game including the Roberts Space Industries platform where fans and backers can interact with the team, view multiple weekly webcasts about Star Citizen, learn about the story behind the game, read constant updates on the game’s progress and much more. Star Citizen is recognized by Guinness World Records as the top crowd funded project and game in the world. People interested in backing the project can do so at http://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge.
